Kahzi

As most of you know, Tony just this week became a police K-9 handler! This has been his dream ever since he became a police officer, so it pretty special. His new best friend is Kahzi (or Kahz, as I think he will go by at work. But the kids and I are calling him Kahzi) is a 2 year old German Shepard. He has only had a little bit of training, so there is a lot of work to be done on Tony's part. He is doing some stuff now with the other K-9 officers and then will start actual drug recognition training with Kahzi in September. Kahzi is pretty sweet and super mellow. He is kind of skinny, so hopefully he can put some meat on his bones! He will live in his dog run on the side of our house pretty much all the time he is home, at least for now. We hope that once he is trained and things are well established, he will be able to be played with and maybe come in the house once in awhile! He is not a tracking dog, so he is not trained in aggression in any way. Just using his sniffer to find drugs. Check out our new guy!

The High Desert Museum

Monday we went to the High Desert Museum, which is right by Bend, OR. I had never heard of it and wasn't sure what to expect. But wow, what an amazing place! There were tons of different exhibits and things to look at.
Takin' a ride

Sadie and Zack with a very old ranger's truck

This was the beginning of an exhibit all about the Plateau Indians of Oregon and Washington. It was a really neat exhibit!

Drew and I were the only ones who would touch the snake :)

And we got to pet a turtle. He was a cutie.

The big spider web climbing net outside

A BIG teepee!

One of the big exhibits outside was the 1880 homestead ranch. It was all set up just like a real ranch back then. It was super cool, with a house, food cellar, barn, lots of animals, and people dressed up just like people in the 1800s.
Sadie and Zack got to try out a game from way back when with sticks and a ring

There was even a school teacher, who was showing the kids how to write both on slate with slate pencils and also on paper using pens that you dip in ink.

Sadie watered the garden

Whoa!

A few poses with the fake animals...
Thanks, Papa and Grandma, for taking us to this super awesome museum!

Lava Lake

Last weekend we had the pleasure of going camping at Lava Lake in central Oregon. Tony's mom, Marie, and step-dad, David, go there and stay every year for the whole month of August. We have been once, but it was when I was pregnant with Drew! The weather was nice and warm during the day (30's at night, a tad cold for me, but we lived) and we were surrounded by beautiful landscapes!
"I not dirty!"

Sadie and Grandma

Zack and Daddy having a laugh

Our little clown. Need I say more? :)

Wow, Grandma makes cool pancakes!

There is also a lot of really neat wildlife in the area. We saw eagles, heron, turkey vultures and more!
Little chipmunk became our friend

The baby deer came right into our campsite, and so did Momma Deer!

Ah, naptime is great!

Nope, you can't get away from the iPhone, not even camping!

Sadie and Mom posin'

We have been wanting to go geocaching for a long time and we finally had the perfect chance! So we set off in search of a treasure.
Drew's ready!

He's SO darn cute!

Zack spotted deer prints!

Quick pose.
I should have asked the deer to take one so I could be in it..

So, we got super close to the spot, and...... well, the Deschutes River stood in our way
So, Papa and Sadie crossed it!
They searched for a long time, but were not able to locate the geocache. Everyone was disappointed, but it was still fun to search.

A little down time with the DVD player

While we were at Lava Lake, Tony got the awesome news that he had been chosen for the job of police K9 handler!! So we had a big ole celebratory dinner, complete with a cake!

Helping Grandma stir the pancakes

Enjoying the last camping breakfast of this trip and of the summer

I think that is the South Sister (the mountain, not the girl)
